Pelkė is an artistic project exploring the Aukštumala peat bog in Lithuania, one of Europe’s largest wetlands. Through photography, this series investigates this fragile ecosystem, vital for biodiversity and carbon regulation, yet profoundly altered by human activity over the past centuries, particularly through drainage and peat extraction. The work highlights the paradox of a landscape that is now both protected and exploited, sanctified and scarred, offering a poetic reflection on the tension between preservation and destruction.
